In my opinion slavery still exists today through racism and prejudice. Prejudice is evident against all kinds of people; poor, rich, black, hispanic, white, old and young, male and female. When you are prejudice against someone you put them down, think youre better than them, throw them aside as an outcast, similar to slavery. Martin Luther King Jr. was a huge influence in ending racism and prejudice. Slavery actually still exists today. Although there are no slaves in the United States there are more than 30 million slaves in the world today. A big percent of that is child slavery. Slavery is very high in West Africa, Pakistan, India, and Haiti. War and natural disasters are common reasons that children and adults are forced into slavery. In Southeast Asia and Eastern Europe slavery is high in the form of sex trafficking. So,although we dont see it in our everyday lives, it is still happening today. During Martin Luther King Jr.’s era racism was the form of slavery. Martin Luther King Jr. was born January 15th 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia as Michael King Jr. He was the middle child, his parents were Michael King, and Alberta Williams King. The King and Williams family were well known in rural Georgia. His grandfather, A.D. Williams, was a rural minister for several years, and moved to Atlanta in 1893. After moving to Atlanta, A.D.
